“Wild at Heart”
Art Exhibition by Finnish-Australian Artist
Satu Kirk
Born in Finland and raised in Australia, Satu always had a passion for art, and spent most of her spare time and rainy days as a child engrossed in sketchbooks and colouring books.
Having immigrated to Australia at such a young age, the memories of her country of birth quickly faded and Satu had to rely on postcards and photographs to build a picture of what Finland was really like. Other peoples’ account of how beautiful the Finnish nature was, was simply not enough.
The yearning to return to Finland was ever-present during her childhood, so, after high school, Satu fulfilled her dream and travelled back to Finland to see “first-hand” what the fuss was all about. The forests and lakes captivated her, and the memories of her travels was the inspiration behind her first solo exhibition, “Into the Woods”, held in June 2010 at the Wyndham Cultural Centre in Werribee. The success of this first exhibition inspired Satu to continue to pursue her dream of becoming a successful artist. For more information visit www.sweetartomine.com

“Fabled Finland”
Photo Exhibition by Tuire Karaharju-Huisman
Tuire Karaharju-Huisman is a lecturer of clinical exercise science. She followed her husband to Australia twelve years ago. Apart from her family and work, she has a passion for sport, music, photography and all things Finnish.
As a child she spent most of her holidays at the summer cottage by the lake Saimaa in South-East Finland. The holidays were filled with fun and beauty of the Finnish nature. During her visits to Finland she aims to spend as much time as possible at the summer house. These images were captured during her last visit in 2010.
